Tomorrow morning is my follow-up appointment with Fenway Health and hopefully the first day of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). My doctor and I will review the results of my blood tests and, as long as everything checks out, she’ll let me know that I am healthy enough to start medication.

Depending on who you ask, there are advantages to the various methods of receiving hormones. There are pills, patches and injections you can take. Some people say that injecting hormones with a syringe is the most potent, but my doctor at Fenway told me it is just as effective to dissolve the pill form under your tongue or to simply use the patch. So, it all comes down to personal preference.

I decided on taking pills because it seemed the most comfortable for my daily routine. I already take medication, so I don’t anticipate any shakeup to my usual morning activities. I will post tomorrow with the exact prescriptions I’ll be taking.

It’s cliche to say but I can’t believe I am actually going through with this process. It feels like I’ve existed somewhere deep inside myself and now I am finally beginning to reach the surface.
